“Hey, baby!” said Reggie Kincaid as he walked into Heather’s room several hours later. “You were dynamite on the tube tonight! Hank’s in trouble now that you fingered him in front of everyone!”

“Reggie, do I have to go tonight?” moaned Heather. “I’m too tired— from the interview and all. Can’t you—”

“Hey, baby,” interrupted the big black man, “you been taking too much time off lately. Time we got back on track.”

“But, Reggie…please.”

“Don’t try to do Reggie wrong,” he snapped. His voice was hard. “You know what happens.”

Heather fought back the tears. She knew if Reggie caught her crying, he would be even harder on her. Some of the girls said he had ways of making you hurt that never showed a mark. She didn’t want to find out how.

When she got home late that same night, sometime after two in the morning, she flopped down on her bed and finally broke and sobbed.

If she tried to leave, Reggie would kill her.

Who could rescue her from this horrible life she had gotten herself into?
